End of the Year Means Making New Friends

End of the Year Means Making New Friends

Last week, we closed out our 2014-15 program year at six Birmingham City schools. While we were sad to send our students out for the summer, their enthusiasm for the upcoming school year was all but underwhelming.

Thanks to some help from our new friends at Shipt, we celebrated our end of the year with all 250 program students; one day at a time. The Journey of a King program is currently implemented in six different Birmingham City schools, with sessions taking place Monday through Friday during the regular school year. Shipt is a Birmingham-based company that provides fast, dependable grocery delivery services. Through the use of their new smartphone app, they delivered food and beverages to all of our program schools.

It’s thanks to the efforts of our program partners that the Journey of a King program continues to change the lives of Birmingham City males. Program partners come in many forms. Some partners help provide volunteer mentors during our 100 Mentors in 100 Days campaign, taking place this year starting June 21. Some, like the YWCA, provide direct services to our students. Others deliver snacks to help us celebrate our students’ hard work through the year.
