Chucks & Tux 2017
Chucks & Tux is Growing Kings’ annual fundraising event to support boys and young men, ages 9-19 years old, in Birmingham City Schools. This year, Chucks & Tux will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at one of Birmingham’s largest and most unique venues – Old Car Heaven.
Attendees are encouraged to wear Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers along with their formal attire to match the distinct flare of the event’s overall theme. Chucks & Tux provides a high-class experience, while creating an environment conducive to an evening full of dancing, laughter, and memories.
A unique feature of the event is a silent auction that will include custom-designed Chuck Taylors created by winners from our Student Shoe Design Contest – GKChucks. In partnership with the UAB Department of Art and Art History, students from Birmingham City high schools will have an opportunity to participate in a school district-wide shoe design contest that will showcase students’ artistic and creative abilities.
Chucks & Tux will feature a host committee consisting of representatives from our sponsors, as well as members of civic organizations, social clubs, and local politicians.
Last year, Chucks & Tux Host Committee members included: Mayor William A. Bell, Dr. Jack Schaeffer, Chuck Faush, Rashada LeRoy, Deon Gordon, Charlton Holt, Allison Barnes, Dr. Dylan Ferniany, Dr. Marquita Davis, Lydia Cheney, Ballard Jones, Heather Nikolich, and Kelli Solomon.
Follow us on Facebook as we announce the 2017 host committee members starting on February 26, 2017.
This year we will have a $25,000 marketing campaign on AL.com as a result of being named the Favorite Nonprofit group at their Young Professionals Summit last summer. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to reach close to 1.8 million AL.com readers by being an event sponsor!
If you are interested in serving as an event sponsor, please see this year’s sponsorship packet. Send any Chucks & Tux sponsorship questions to Ballard Jones, development coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone (205)417-2478 ext. 110.
